A Memorial Day Doctrine

First, I’d like to say Happy Memorial Day to everybody who should be home enjoying this lovely day with their loved ones but can’t because they are fighting for our freedoms.

Now, before all of you sit down on the beach, in your backyard, or just on the block with your beers and barbecued burgers remember what today is REALLY about: a call to mind and memory, the men and women of past, present and future who will stop at nothing to ensure not only our safety but our livelihood.

Take into consideration the countries where at an early age children are shipped off to the army never to see their family again… Children that are trained to kill who have no say. Think of the uncountable number of soldiers’ whose bodies will never make it home and even more so how their names are forgotten just as soon as the breathe their last breath…

What separates us from them? Is it the minute fact that we spend one day every year thanking our soliders for making it possible to celebrate this event another year? On the outside it seems that way. So why, instead of just acknowledging Memorial Day once a year, don’t we take a minute every day (yes, it can be just a moment) to bow our heads and thank the people who deserve it on a daily basis? It’s on us to let them know how grateful we are for their service. These men and women see and do things that we couldn’t fathom. We don’t understand the toll it takes on them mentally and physically… and all it takes in some cases to console these people is a little bit of acknowledgment that their sacrifices were worth every cent.

We as Americans take everything for granted. I think it’s time to stop. Don’t you?

Just a some higher thinking to keep your internal computers computing on the off day. Everybody enjoy your day. Back to work tomorrow…
