As an MC who has shared the stage with such legendary artists as Rakim, Pete Rock, DJ Premier, Mobb Deep, Mos Def, The Rza, Ghostface Killah, Raekwon, Methodman, Xzibit, The Beatnuts, Tha Liks, E-40, Tha Dogg Pound, WC, Large Professor, Ras Kass, Jay Electronica, Slaughterhouse (Royce da 5’9″, Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz, Crooked I), Chino XL, Cormega, Rhymefest and Brother J (X Clan) Pasadena native Foci clearly understands not only how to rock a stage (as he was the winner of Urban Underground’s Best Performance for 2010 2011 and 2012), but how to create an everlasting impact. Coming off of last weeks break through performance at Los Angeles’s Belasco Theater in direct support of Mos Def a.k.a. Yasiin Bey, Foci has released his long awaited debut album “The Achievement Gap.”
“The Achievement Gap†is a concept project that addresses various facets of academic success, this album also touches on revealing FOCI’s insecurities (“Motion Picturesâ€), his search for love and companionship (“Promise Landâ€) and the murder of his best friend Cesar Morales (“Cesar’s Song†f/ Annie Elliott). The album as a whole serves as a statement on the current condition of Hip-Hop which ultimately culminates in the songs (“Real DJs†f/ Christine Ariya & Desperado).
